LONCETT QTLS/ATLS Project

The policy documents Success for All (2003) and Equipping our Teachers (2004) identified a need for workforce development and professionalisation within the lifelong learning sector.  In response to this, new statutory requirements - The Further Education Teachers' Qualifications (England) Regulations - for initial teacher training (ITT) and continuing professional development (CPD) came into force on 1st September 2007.  These requirements have wide-ranging implications for organisations in the sector and how they deal with both new and established staff.

Against the backdrop of the above reforms working together with HR and ITT specialists the LONCETT QTLS/ATLS project aimed to identify how FE providers within the LONCETT partnership were responding to the 'professionalisation agenda' and the statutory requirements for QTLS/ATLS and CPD.

The following documents reporting on the project are available via the links below:

  • The second project report builds on the previous report exploring further how FE colleges and other providers in the lifelong learning sector are responding to the 'professionalisation agenda' and whether organisations have moved to greater standardisation in ITT and CPD.
  • The first project report presents the findings of the investigation into how further education colleges are adapting their recruitment, guidance and initial teacher training in response to the new statutory requirement.
  • Power Point presentation on the inital findings from the project (May 2008).
