Adult and Community Learning

The Excellence Gateway describes adult and community learning (ACL) as 'one the routes to a lifetime of learning'. Provision in ACL is often, but not only, made by local authorities with the offer including accredited and non-accredited programmes for both work- and leisure-related subjects. Courses are held for example at dedicated ACL centres, FE colleges but also at libraries and community centres. The diversity in terms of programmes and delivery contribute to the complexity of the sector.

The LONCETT ACL Project focuses on the needs of ACL teacher trainer - both for initial teacher training and CPD. The project page provides an introduction to the project as well as related reports.

ACL Resources - Currently this section features resources on RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement in Non-Accredited Learning), a government-sponsored initiative as well as resources from the LONCETT ACL specialist network.

ACL Specialist Network - At regular meetings this network for ACL practitioners provides a forum to discuss and share experiences, successes and concerns on a range of topics relevant to the sector.
