Prison and Offender Learning

As teachers in many other environments in the lifelong learning sector, teachers working in prison and offender education have to meet very diverse needs. But the prison and offender education context has its own additional challenges and constraints due, for example, to the different needs of learners serving short-term as opposed to long-term sentences as well as teaching in a secure environment that is subject to very specific rules and regulations.

The LONCETT Prison Education Project explores a number of the issues specific to the prison and offender learning context. The project page provides an introduction to the project as well as related reports.

Resources specific to the context of prison and offender learning are available for those who are teaching, or intend to teach in prisons.

As part of the LONCETT Prison Education Project a network for teachers, trainers and instructors working in prisons in London has been created. This network provides a forum to share best practice, discuss issues of teaching and learning and talk about resources under development.
