Vocational Education and Training

Teachers in vocational education and training are often very much grounded in the industry or profession they teach to others whilst being less familiar with the role of teacher. Teaching is often a secondary career into which they may have entered through diverse routes. Hence, this sector faces the challenge of facilitating the transition from being an occupational practitioner to becoming a vocational teacher.

The LONCETT project Improving ITT for vocational skills teachers in FE and work-based learning centres very much around the theme of developing subject specialist pedagogies and enabling teachers to make the transition from occupational practitioner to teacher.

Linked to the vocational skills teachers' project are resources generated from the project seminars.

Vocational Education Network - At regular meetings this network for those working in vocational education and work-based learning provides a forum for practitioners to discuss and share experiences, successes and concerns on a range of topics relevant to this context.
