Initial Teacher Training

At the heart of the Centres for Excellence in Teacher Training (CETTs) and with that of LONCETT is the aim to:

• Expand access, improve recruitment and induction to ITT;
• Increase emphasis upon specialist pedagogies in ITT and CPD;
• Improve specialist mentoring and workplace support;
• Foster and sustain teacher-education communities, and
• Transfer good practice within and beyond CETT.

Many areas of this site give those interested in initial teacher training (ITT) access to information and resources about ITT in general and also in specific areas.

With the emphasis on expanding access to ITT and developing specialist pedagogies LONCETT facilitates a range of projects in the following areas:

• Adult & Community Learning

• Prison and Offender Learning

• Vocational Education and Training

• Mentoring and work-based support for beginning teachers

• Mentoring action research in the areas of e-mentoring, SfL, work-based learning, prison education and LLN/ILT for trainee teachers

• QTLS/ATLS and associated statutory requirements

• Use of ICT in teacher training
