National CETT Agenda
The Excellence Gateway describes the Centres for Excellence in Teacher Training, the CETTs, as a 'vital part of the learning and skills sector'. The centres are funded by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service, as part of a national strategy aimed to identify, develop and share good practice and provide models with the overall purpose of improving the quality and standard of initial teacher training and continuing professional development in the lifelong learning sector.
CETTs are collaborative partnerships of organisations from the sector with either a geographical or a specialist focus. There are 11 CETTs in total. They vary in size, with networks of between 17 and over 50 organisations, and a total of nearly 300 partners across England.
Each one of the CETTs has a different focus in its activities. Between them they make a contribution to many different contexts such as work-based learning and offender education and to many different themes relevant to the sector such as mentoring and QTLS. Resources and information generated by the individual CETTs can be accessed via their websites as well as via the National CETTs website on the Excellence Gateway which also gives more details about the CETTs.
