The new statutory requirements which came into force in 2007 mean that new teachers in the lifelong learning sector will need to gain some level of teaching qualification.  For those in a full teaching role, the requirement is for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).  Many qualifications are offered on a part-time in-service basis which requires the new teacher to already be employed in some teaching capacity. Others are offered pre-service and as part of your programme you will undertake teaching practice.

You are strongly advised to seek specialist advice which takes account of your career plans and the part of the sector you teach in or want to train for.
